The world has shifted, our goals may have to be adjusted, but remaining healthy still remains one of our top priorities. As runners, we rely heavily on our mental power and now more than ever, we need to use this inner power, to help us ride the storm.
So with the pandemic causing most races to cancelled, South Africa runners, needed to look at new avenues to get their running thrills met. Intro, the garden challenges, and we definitely bore witness to some real innovation.
Next in line, were our organisers, whom for many, had to venture off into unknown territory. Intro, the virtual runs. First to line up was the Comrades Virtual Run, where we saw 1000s of runners take to the streets to complete this iconic event.
So, what lies ahead for us runners (definitely, a non-exhaustive list)?

KZN Mountain Trail Series: 5 Epic mountain marathon race series
Karkloof 100: one of my personal favourites in South Africa, set to take place in Karkloof, KZN on the 25 - 27 September 2020 (optimistic fingers crossed). The race offers both a 100 miler and 50 miler distances. What really draws me back to this race each year, is the fact the route provides lots of access points for family and friends. Providing you with that much-needed love and support through the race. Also, the spectacular views of valleys and the Karkloof forest reserve, add to the beauty of this race. The fast runnable route, makes it a great option for anyone attempting there first 100 miler or 50 miler event.
SkyRun: The iconic Skryrun will take place on 25 November 2020, in Ladygrey. The self-supported and self-navigated trail running event offering a 100km, 65km and 38km distances. If your looking for a true adventure this is your race.
